Downing Care is looking for a Home Manager for Tall Oaks a 6 bed care home in Farnborough, Hampshire.  The home, established in 2005, has a CQC rating of GOOD.

Tall Oaks is a specialist care home providing support for young adults with physical and learning disabilities and our areas of expertise includes the care and management of those with Sensory Impairment, Epilepsy, Autism and Rett Syndrome.

Our aim is to support each resident to be as independent as possible, to maintain and develop their skills, to provide them with meaningful, enjoyable life opportunities which will enhance their lives and promote their well-being.

Leadership and People Management

  • Lead by example and develop a skilled and effective staff team who will consistently deliver a person centred service.
  • Develop a positive working environment which nurtures staff and rewards good practice.
  • Ensure all staff are engaged in a programme of training and personal development.
  • Ensure professional standards are maintained through the provision of regular supervision and annual appraisal to all staff.
  • Ensure good quality working relationships are built and maintained between staff and the individuals they are supporting.
  • Promote good communication and effective working practice through a range of resident and staff meetings.
  • Ensure effective recruitment and retention of an appropriately skilled staff team.
  • Ensure the provision of support and guidance to the staff team at all times, including out of hours.
  • Where necessary ensure that all disciplinary and grievance procedures are carried out in line with Company policy and statutory requirements.
  • To continually review the service and manage any required or necessary change effectively.
  • Ensure staff adhere to the Code of Practice, Company Policies and guidance detailed in the Staff Handbook.

Resident Support – the post holder is required to ensure:

  • Safety and delivery of an appropriate and professional service to all residents through the implementation of an up to date Care Plan, comprehensive Risk Assessments, Care Reviews, Health Reviews, Medication reviews and Health Checks etc.
  • That each resident is given opportunities both in the home and in the community to engage in a wide range of activities and social events.
  • All residents’ medication is managed safely and appropriately, that it is reviewed, received, stored and administered according to the prescribed guidance and Company policies.
  • Good communication with residents’ families and professionals involved in their care.
  • That the rights of each resident are upheld at all times.
  • That MCA and DOLS assessments are reviewed and updated as required.

Quality management

  • Ensure the Home is run in line with Statutory and Company Policies.
  • Ensure the home complies with the requirements of the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
  • Develop a culture which enables staff members to maximise their development and create areas of expertise within the service.
  • Undertake a programme of Audits to ensure the service is continuously reviewed and improved.

Financial

  • Manage delegated budgets to ensure resources are used to best effect, in line with Company policy and procedure.
  • Report financial discrepancies to the Operations Manager.
  • Ensure staff work to and comply with financial systems in line with company policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure that all residents are supported with their finances and that their benefits are reviewed and managed appropriately with them.
  • Undertake a programme of financial audits to ensure the financial service is continuously reviewed and improved.
  • Report to the Financial Controller the monthly Imprest, Staff Payroll, Invoices and Remittance advice.
  • Provide support with the setting of annual budgets.

Governance

  • Ensure information is collated and recorded in line with Quality Assessment System and CQC requirements.
  • Manage the appropriate maintenance of records and personal information in line with the Data Protection Act and to the standards required by Information Governance.
  • To attend reviews as appropriate.
  • To attend monthly manager meetings and contribute to the agenda.
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures related to the running of the home are adhered to.
  • Undertake a programme of compliance audits to ensure the service is continuously reviewed and improved

Health and Safety

  • Ensure information is collated and recorded in line with the Company and CQC requirements.
  • Manage the appropriate maintenance of records and personal information in line with the Data Protection Act and to the standards required by Information Governance.
  • To ensure all required annual reviews are completed and necessary action taken to address and shortcomings or required safety developments.
  • To attend monthly manager meetings and contribute to the Health and Safety agenda.
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures related to the safe running of the home are in place and adhered to.
  • Ensure that all required Infection Control policies and procedures are in place, monitored and managed appropriately, keeping safety of residents, staff and others paramount.
  • Ensure that all Covid-19 policies and guidelines are reviewed and updated as necessary, and all action is undertaken as required.
  • Ensure that all Environmental Risks are assessed, and action is taken to address any shortcomings.

Equity and Diversity

  • Ensure information is collated and recorded in line with Statutory and CQC requirements.

  • To attend monthly manager meetings and contribute to the agenda.

Qualifications and Experience

Description

We are looking for a Senior Support Worker to join our team and provide a person centered, needs led service to adults with a learning disability and or physical disability, supporting them in all aspects of their lives, with personal care, decision making, activities and lifestyle choices and promoting their independence. The candidate must a clean driving license. They will be required to drive the minibus in order to support the residents with community activities.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • To take responsibility for the day to day supervision of the residents and the staff.
  • Ensure good team working through a balance of skill, strengths and weaknesses.
  • Lead the shift – ensuring staff deliver person centered practice and meet the individual care plan needs and wishes.
  • You will be expected to work early, late and weekend shifts as scheduled on a rota basis ( flexible ). This is a seven day per week, 24 hour service and as such you will be expected to work Bank Holidays if the needs of the service require you to do so.
  • To support the Home Manager in ensuring the smooth running, organization and management of the home.
  • Participate in the assessment of changing care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of person centered care and in the setting of care standards.
  • To support the Home Manager in ensuring that each resident has an up to date, comprehensive, individualised and structured program of relevant, age-appropriate in-house and community based activities.
  • Promote good communications between staff, residents, and their families or representatives.
  • To positively act for and promote the company in line with policy, procedure, employee handbook and position of responsibility.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with GDPR.

We are looking for fun, happy individuals who can really make a difference to the lives of our residents.

Staff should be able to work some shifts at weekends although we try and ensure that you have two clear weekends a month where you are not expected to work.
