Welcome to The Chestnuts

My name is Beata Czapla and I am the Home Manager at The Chestnuts.
Upon arrival from my home country of Poland, where I was working as a qualified nurse, I started my first job at Downing Care as a support worker. Over 13 years I was promoted by the management to a senior support worker, deputy manager and in February 2019 I became the Home Manager of The Chestnuts.
I pride myself on creating a house that is foremost a comfortable home from home for our residents and a supportive environment for our staff. I believe being a good manager means being hands on at all levels of the running of our home and a flexible team player.
It has always been my dream to work with people in need and to provide them with the best possible quality of life. As a home manager I make sure that all our residents are well looked after in a caring and positive atmosphere. We always look beyond our residents’ disabilities to what they can do as opposed to what they cannot.
At The Chestnuts we aim for everyone in our home to enjoy life to the full. We treat our residents with dignity, privacy and respect while offering them freedom of choice and encourage independence according to their abilities.
Our home is a welcoming place that is always open to the residents’ families and friends.

The Chestnuts is a delightful and happy home, the care team always appears cheerful and ready to assist. I fully understand that the personal safety and security of residents is first priority, however, the current arrangements make it extremely difficult for visiting parents and family to obtain access to the home which is my only complaint.

The Chestnuts is a lovely place for your family member to live. Every morning he is given a shower and a shave, his medication is given on time, the staff are very friendly and talk to the residents, the food is excellent, everyone is clean and the home smells pleasant. Residents do get taken out regularly and have a holiday every year. There are weekly activities and the residents are taken to their day centres. A lovely place.

I am the Mother of a resident at Chestnuts and cannot speak more highly of the staff and how hard they are working to keep everyone safe. Thank you all very much. Keep well and safe.

Beginning, during and now re-covid. As a sister of one of the residents, I have been nothing but impressed and reassured through these uncertain times that my sister has been very much cared for, and the correct and very disciplined measures have been kept, and still are. I have had a few video calls and can see my sister has been and continues to be very well looked after, she's happy and very comfortable living in Chestnuts, she's well monitored when not feeling 100% and the staff do all they can to make her smile and feel comfortable. I'm very pleased they have helped us keep contact through regular video calls, and we get to see each other.

All the carers are thoughtful and kind and treat the residents as if they were members of their own family. During the lockdown they have exceeded all expectations to us they are all unsung heroes. I would highly recommend this home. My only grievance is that it is far from where I live but don't think I would have got the kind of care closer to home.
We look forward to hearing
from you
